Female stock photography can be a lucrative specialization for photographers. Stock houses are always on the lookout for female-featured photos. Advertising agencies frequently request women for their stock photography purchases so you may be missing out on a great new source for money making.

What exactly is female stock photography? Stock photography is a type of photo warehouse that licenses photos for specific purposes. Newspapers, magazines, advertising agencies and graphic artists all use stock photo houses to buy photos for their specific purposes. Female stock photography consists of photos that feature females.

When shooting female stock photography, keep in mind how the photos might be used. Simple or muted backgrounds work best. You'll want to photograph women with various facial expressions. Happy photos are nice, but make sure you shoot some photos in which the model is serious, sad, contemplative etc., to enhance your ability to sell.

Don't forget that children count as female stock photos, so if you have access to models you should shoot children as well. Single girls sell well as do a whole group of children so remember that variety is the key. Sometimes an agency is looking for an African-American or an Asian female so try to vary your models to fit the suspected needs of the buying public.

It is extremely important to have a signed release from your model in order to show your photos on a stock photography site. If the face of the model is recognizable you will need a release form. A parent or guardian must sign the release for any model under the age of 18. It is easiest to get the release signed when you are initially taking the photo. Always remember to carry model release forms with your camera gear. It can be difficult to track down models once the shoot is over.
